Our Techniques

We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our judgment and years of experience.

Sherman-area patients enjoy Dr. Norma Haar, DC's adjusting approach.

The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Diversified

After identifying which spinal bones have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is administered to free up “stuck” joints.  The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.  While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.

Impulse Adjustment Instrument

The impulse adjusting instrument is a hand-held electric adjusting instrument that looks kind of like a pistol.  It has three settings, low (for the neck area and other more sensitive joints), medium (for the mid-back) and high (for the more muscular low back area).  This technique works very well for the elderly and the small children who have a hard time relaxing or we want to apply the most gentle treatment possible and still be very effective.

Advanced BioStructural Correction™

ABC™ is a clinically proven holistic method to improve your health that is effective beyond anything else in structural health care. It is a series of corrections to your skeletal structure and soft tissues that restores your body's basic balance and ability to function. read more»

Flexion-Distraction Rehabilitation Bio-Feedback

Flexion/Distraction technique is very effective on disc bulges and other inflammatory joint problems in the low back.  You have probably seen lots of advertising for the "spinal decompression" tables.  Flexion/Distraction performs the same function except we use our hands and a special table that allows us to traction each individual joint in the low back whereas the spinal decompression tables stretch the entire low back at one time.  We feel the individual method works better as we can communicate with the patient and get feedback at each vertebrae and determine which ones need more attention.

Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation that we use in our office consists of regaining muscular strength following an injury.  Research has shown muscles not reconditioned after an injury actually develop fat deposits in place of muscle so you can't even tell by looking that the muscle is not the same size as it was before.  We use resistance training at increasing tensions to help rebuild your muscles.

Relax in a full-body water massage without removing your clothing or getting wet.  Hundreds of pulsating jets move up and down your body like a shower massage.  Dr. Haar's patients receive five minutes of this complimentary prior to their adjustment.  Dr. Marklin's receive 10 minutes of this therapy during the final phase of their rehab care.

If you’ve been to a chiropractor before and prefer to be adjusted in a particular way, let one of the chiropractors know. We want you to relax, enjoy and fully benefit from your chiropractic care.

Dr. Norma, DC Asks some important questions of interest to Sherman residents - Chiropractor Sherman Dr. Norma, DC Asks...

Can someone who has had back surgery receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Rest assured that we will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. However, what we find is that surgical interventions will often produce spinal instability above or below the involved level. This is will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
